Legend of Kakbhusandi Lake

Kak in English means crow and Bhusandi is a Bengali word meaning a crow living through ages. Kak Bhusandi was a great sage and the devotee of lord Vishnu who was born as crow while lord Vishnu was born as Rama in Ayodhya to king Dashrath. The crow flew around child Rama and ate the crumbs Rama threw. Kak Bhusandi flew to many places with the child Rama. Locals say that crows come to the lake to drop feathers of their late parents as the followers of Hinduism come to offer the ashes of their late parents and kinsmen on the rivers. This is why the lake is named Kakbhusandi.

Two huge irregular shaped rocks on the Hathi Parvat above Kakbhusandi lake are said to be the Kak also called Kaga (crow) and Garuda (eagle) – the bahana (mount) of lord Vishnu, discussing about the affairs of Universe. The crow is the sage Kak Bhusandi, the devotee of lord Rama who was cursed by sage Lomas and so had to born in the form of crow during Treta Yuga when Ramayana occurred.
